today say, walk softly, talk softly but carry a big stick. senator obama likes to talk loudly. >> senator mccai this is the guy who sang bomb, bomb, bomb iran. who called for the annihilation of north korea. >> all right. it's a delicate line these candidates will have to walk next week with a live studio audience right near them. >> sure. it just changes the vibe completely because you know and i know that they don't have any problem kind of challenging you, challenging a reporter, somebody that they're familiar with. they can be really tough on you and say, hey, that's not true. they don't have a problem shouting you down. but if you have a bunch of undecided voters watching you, there's a couple things. first of all, you can't be too hot. you can't be too aggressive because that vibe is bad in the room. second of all, all the theatrics of it for them. which is the you have to talk to them and you have to seem like you're relating to them. so i think it adds a whole other level of performance if you will to what they're saying. it's also very hard to evade a question that co

nights ago. to univision, president barack obama in a spanish language interview said, we do not see anything that venezuela is doing against the u.s. national interest. that goes against what republicans, including senator marco rubio, has said clearly and loudly. venezuela supports syria. venezuela supports iran. they could, in fact, be supporting hezbollah here in the country, although there isn't any concrete proof of that. those people, the republicans are saying, look, pay attention to venezuela. we need to understand what they're doing in this hemisph e hemisphere. >> paula newton, thanks very much. >>> a notorious self-confessed killer reportedly about to become a father behind bars. we have details on that and a lot more news coming up here in "the situation room." in keeping the denture clean. dentures are very different to real teeth. they're about 10 times softer and may have surface pores where bacteria can multiply. polident is designed to clean dentures daily. its unique micro-clean formula kills 99.9% of odor causing bacteria and helps dissolve stains, cleaning in a b

practice sessions than president obama turned out to be? >> senator portman is very effective. the i think president obama and i both had a good chance to describe our respective views as to how we would do a better job. and i frankly think i benefitted from the fact that rather than having people learn about me by ads prepared by my opposition, they got to actually hear what i would do for myself. and i think that helped me. i think the president also got to layout his plans and people were able to make a comparison. as for rob portman, he's a pretty effective guy. >> were you surprised by the president's performance? >> i actually thought he described pretty appropriately and pretty effectively his policies. i just happen to disagree with those policies. when we talked about the economy, he really is not proposing anything he hasn't talked about for the last four years, which is another stimulus, hiring more government workers, picking winners and losers in industries that he favors, raising taxes. these are ideas he's had for some time, and frankly we've tested those ideas over th

what then-senator obama said in his convention speech in 2008. >> if you don't have a record to run on, then you paint your opponent as someone people should run from. you make a big election about small things. >> reporter: the romney campaign also believes the candidate is connecting better with voters. here getting choked up talking about navy seal glenn dougherty who died in a consulate attack in libya, a man romney said he once met. >> you can imagine how i felt when i found out that he was one of the two former navy seals killed in benghazi on september 11th. and it -- it touched me obviously as i recognized this young man that i thought was so impressive had lost his life in the service of his fellow men and women. >> reporter: now that the race is essentially tied, romney's advisors expect the obama campaign to shift away from sesame street tactics to what they call character attacks. but those officials are confident that those attacks will not work saying voters are now tuned into the debates and eager to hear solutions. wolf. >> jim acosta, thank you. and this remiepder, mit

different times as a senator, a vp, that he's worked specifically with republicans to get things done. i think that's where obama differentiates himself also. i think romney and ryan are going too much partisanship. i think the one who wins the independent is a candidate. i'm really going to work with people and i've done it as vp, president and senator. >> i so hope we get to see biden, tomorrow. joe, if you're listening, be yourself. give us some jokes. give us some off color. >> i don't think he can. >> give us some gaffes. >> people like joe biden. >> they do. >> america likes joe biden. >> i like joe biden. >> by the way, joe six-pack white dudes who watch football like joe biden. >> even my dad likes joe biden. we're out of time. thanks so much. another brilliant conversation. i want to thank wolf blitzer for letting us hang out in his "the situation room." now back to wolf. >> excellent unsolicited advice pete and company. thanks very much. >>> the republican vice presidential hopeful paul ryan sat down exclusively with cnn. up next, how his hunting routine might help him in tomor

expected to be much tougher than in the first round. >> the press secretary for the obama campaign told me earlier that john kerry, the senator from massachusetts will continue to play mitt romney in those boot camp debate rehearsals as they say. all right, dan thanks very much. let's get to the republican ticket right now, you might say that mitt romney is riding paul ryan's coat tails. they're in ohio a must win swing state. jim acosta is on the scene for us. >> reporter: that's right machinery and paul ryan will be out here in the town square in just a few moments, they reunited about an hour ago at the columbus airport, and according to reporters that witnessed this, they exchanged a bro hug and he said way to go. even though paul ryan says he didn't see it coming i talked to a lot of strategists last night who say they were not expecting joe bidens repeated interjections and laugh out loud performance he delivered but the debate has not just been about style it has been about substance substance, and most notably, the subject of libya. >> at breakfast, paul ryan still had his
